Dr. Choi completed his general surgery internship at Loma Linda University School of Medicine before going on to do his ophthalmology residency at Loma Linda Medical Center. He then completed a focused fellowship in refractive surgery to learn contemporary LASIK techniques. A lifelong learner, Dr. Choi keeps a pulse on the latest developments in the industry so that he can implement the newest ocular technologies and care approaches in his practice.

A highly skilled ophthalmologist, Dr. Choi possesses a comprehensive knowledge of human eye anatomy and can accurately diagnose, manage and treat a wide range of conditions and diseases. He has performed thousands of eye surgeries, including laser cataract removal, refractive eye corrections (like LASIK), selective laser trabeculectomy (SLT) and goniotomy for congenital glaucoma. Dr. Choi is also the first ophthalmologist in Alabama to use the Zeiss VisuMax® femtosecond laser for precision refractive surgery.

Dr. Choi is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has been voted one of Alabama’s top eye surgeons. He takes a personalized approach to patient care, working one-on-one with every patient in order to fully understand their symptoms and concerns. He is also passionate about educating his patients so that they fully understand their treatment options and know how to better care for their eyes.

Education and Training

Dr. Gaudet attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in biology. She attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham, earning her Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree.

Working out of our Birmingham office, Dr. Gaudet uses the most modern techniques and technology to address each patient’s eye care needs. Her kind and personable nature makes her a favorite amongst our patients.

Education and Training

Dr. Bedsole completed her Undergraduate and Master’s education at the University of Alabama. She went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. Dr. Bedsole is also a member of the American Optometric Association, Alabama Optometric Association and American Society of Microbiologists.

Specialties and Expertise

Dr. Bedsole specializes in primary eye care, glaucoma management, refractive care and contact lenses, and pre- and post-operative management for LASIK and cataract surgery. Our patients love her passion for optimizing their eye health through tailored treatment options.

Dr. Haley Smith grew up in the Birmingham area. She attended the University of Alabama and graduated in 2008 with a B.S. in Biology. It was a volunteer trip to Ghana with a group called Unite for Sight that helped solidify her decision to become an optometrist. She then attended UAB School of Optometry, and was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa honor society. Dr. Smith has been practicing in and around the Birmingham area for 10+ years and enjoys seeing patients of all ages.

In her free time, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys spending time on Smith Lake, reading, playing mahjong, and Alabama football!
